I go by Matthew, that is my name. Born and raised in the midwest, I enjoyed my first Discover Scuba Diving experience in Hawaii on January 1, 2000. I completed my Divemaster in 2003, and dove much of Central America and the Caribbean, as well as the Great Lakes’ shipwrecks. Detouring from my initial vision to move to Hawaii and work in the scuba trade after college, instead I accepted a graduate fellowship in London, where I lived for several years, studying ancient languages. I completed my doctorate in Religious Studies, with a focus on comparative mysticism, and taught in University for a short while after that. Realizing I had spent much of my adult life studying and teaching about other peoples’ mystical experiences, I decided it was time to enjoy some of my own! I sold all and returned to the very same site of my first calling. Now I am a Padi Instructor in Hawaii, and take a great deal of satisfaction from putting people in direct personal contact with the greatest healer I have ever met — the ocean.
