BCDs can be tricky to repair. Usually we won’t repair the bladder and there are many different parts for bcds that are difficult to source. We do our best to keep major BCD brand parts in stock being one of the few Kona dive shops to carry many major parts.

How often should scuba gear be serviced?
It depends on the brand and frequency of use but in general here are the guidelines:
- Regulator – annual inspection
- Bcd – annual inspection
- Tank – annual visual inspection 5 year hydro test
How often do I need to get my regulator serviced?
- Atomic: Needs to be serviced every 2 years or 300 dives
- Apeks: Needs to be service at least once every year or 100 dives whichever comes first
- Aqualung: Needs to be service at least once every year or 100 dives whichever comes first
- Oceanic: Needs to be service at least once every year, 100 dives, or after 6 months with no use whichever comes first.
- Zeagle: Needs to be service at least once every year or 100 dives whichever comes first
- Hollis: Needs to be service at least once every year, 100 dives, or after 6 months with no use whichever comes first
- ScubaPro: Needs to be serviced every 100 dives or no longer than once every 2 years, whichever comes first.

How do I know if my gear needs servicing?

Why bother getting my gear inspected / serviced?
It’s important to have your gear inspected and regularly serviced for a few reasons. This is life support equipment, without it we would not survive underwater. It is important to have peace of mind down deep that everything is in proper working order and safe to use. Additionally, by having your gear serviced at regular intervals it can prevent much larger issues that require replacing expensive parts if corrosion has begun causing too much damage to the metal.
I have an old regulator set & computer but I don’t want to get rid of it. What should I do?
Take advantage of manufacturer’s like Atomic and Oceanic’s Trade-In programs. You can get a discount on a new set of gear by bringing in your old computer or regulator set.
How do I know if my Tank is ok to use?
There are 2 markings on every scuba tank that will show you when it was last checked.
- A VIP sticker is a sticker on the shoulder top of the tank that tells the person filling when the tank was last visually inspected. It needs to have been checked within the last year.
- A hydro stamp is a stamp that marks the outside of the tank with the date it was last hydrostatically tested. If it was tested within the last 5 years its good to go. If not it must have it’s valve removed and be sent in for a hydrostatic test. At this time a new VIP sticker will be installed.
