Many Kona dive shops offer some level of servicing but often don’t do everything well. When it comes to scuba repair there are three main concerns:

    • Cost
    • Competency
    • Timeliness

    Cost

Kona Honu Divers strives to offer a low price guarantee. This means that compared to the other major shops you know you’ll be getting a good deal on your scuba repair. We also rent and sell only Atomic Regulators. This means if you buy one from us you’ll save money on service costs. Here’s why.

    Competency

Our dive shop staff are highly trained and experienced in handling scuba equipment. We are all serious divers with a love for the sport so we understand how important it is to handle your gear properly. Getting it right the first time is our priority.

    Timeliness

Our technicians work hard. This means we repair your gear as soon as we are able. Kona scuba dive gear repair requires your repair center has the parts, tools, and the know-how to get the Job done right and in a timely manner. If we aren’t able to get it done in the time you require we will let you know, but often our turn-around times are much better than industry standard.

Bring your dive gear by and you will see why locals recommend us for your Kona scuba dive gear repair. Kona dive shops are not all created equal and we’d be happy to prove to you why locals love our shop. We try our best to make it painless to get you back to diving again.

BCDs can be tricky to repair. Usually we won’t repair the bladder and there are many different parts for bcds that are difficult to source. We do our best to keep major BCD brand parts in stock being one of the few Kona dive shops to carry many major parts.

A regulator is one of your most important pieces of equipment. Without it scuba diving is not possible. Sometimes the pressure in a regulator’s first stage will drift out of specification. This means it will provide too much pressure causing the second stage to free-flow or not enough pressure causing the second stage to breathe with difficulty. By bringing your reg set in for a bench test we can examine the root of the problem at no cost to you. Kona Honu Divers maintains our rental fleet of regulators proactively to ensure their proper functioning before problems arise. We carry the Atomic brand of regulators because they offer the best performance and the highest reliability with the lowest maintenance requirement of any regulator currently on the market. This means you can spend more time and money on diving and less time in the dive shop.

If you own a piece of dive equipment that is not listed above give us a shout. We are often able to service brands that we do not carry parts for or we can find someone who does. If you’re not sure if your gear needs servicing come by the shop and take advantage of our free bench test where we’ll give your dive gear a good once over, checking that it is within specifications. Often when it comes to scuba repair it’s a quick and simple fix to get things in order.

Be sure to check your gear before you dive if it’s been a while between trips. Watch the video above to see how to check your gear for it’s proper functioning. To test your regulator you will need access to a pressurized scuba tank. Your BCD, fins, mask, and snorkel can be checked more easily. If you do find an issue or you just want to be safe bring it by our shop and we’ll be happy to take a look at your gear at no cost. Kona Honu Divers is happy to provide kona scuba dive gear repair services to the Big Island diving community.

How do I know if my gear needs servicing?

Bring it into the shop for a free bench test where we’ll go through all of your gear and check it over thoroughly for you. Or fill out our ask us anything and we’ll reach out to you.

Why bother getting my gear inspected / serviced?

It’s important to have your gear inspected and regularly serviced for a few reasons. This is life support equipment, without it we would not survive underwater. It is important to have peace of mind down deep that everything is in proper working order and safe to use. Additionally, by having your gear serviced at regular intervals it can prevent much larger issues that require replacing expensive parts if corrosion has begun causing too much damage to the metal.

I have an old regulator set & computer but I don’t want to get rid of it. What should I do?

Take advantage of manufacturer’s like Atomic and Oceanic’s Trade-In programs. You can get a discount on a new set of gear by bringing in your old computer or regulator set.

How do I know if my Tank is ok to use?

There are 2 markings on every scuba tank that will show you when it was last checked.

    1. A VIP sticker is a sticker on the shoulder top of the tank that tells the person filling when the tank was last visually inspected. It needs to have been checked within the last year.
    2. A hydro stamp is a stamp that marks the outside of the tank with the date it was last hydrostatically tested. If it was tested within the last 5 years its good to go. If not it must have it’s valve removed and be sent in for a hydrostatic test. At this time a new VIP sticker will be installed.
